SENATE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION
Staff: Leslie Goldstein (786‑7424)
Hearing Dates:February 25, 1991; March 4, 1991; March 6, 1991; February 3, 1992
BACKGROUND:
School districts may choose whether or not to provide school nursing programs. The amount of money a school district can raise through local levies is limited by statute. Because of the limit on levies, some school districts are not permitted to raise sufficient funds to support the programs the district would like to provide.
SUMMARY:
School districts are authorized to run separate one-year levies to support school nurse programs. The amount of the levy is limited to the amount of funds necessary to provide one school nurse for every 2,000 fulltime equivalent students in the district. The funds raised from this levy shall not be used to determine the district's levy limits.
Appropriation: none
