BACKGROUND:

 

The health studios law authorizes a buyer to cancel a health studio contract for any reason upon 30 days' written notice if that contract extends for more than one year.

 

The law also authorizes a buyer to cancel a health studio contract with an existing facility upon written notice within three days of signing the contract.  For a contract signed prior to the opening of a facility, the buyer may cancel within the first five days the facility opens.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The authority of a buyer to cancel a health studio contract for any reason if that contract extends for more than one year is removed.

 

For a health studio contract signed prior to the opening of a facility, the time within which the buyer may cancel the contract is reduced from five days to three days.
