BACKGROUND:
Recording of salmon and steelhead catches in the commercial and recreational fisheries is important for resource conservation and catch accounting purposes.
There is a concern that catches need to be recorded in a more accurate manner.
SUMMARY:
The Director of Fisheries and the Director of Wildlife shall cooperatively develop a plan to improve the catch accounting of salmon and steelhead. The directors shall work with the federal government, the Indian tribes, and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to make a comprehensive catch accounting system. Incentives and penalties are to be considered as ways in which the accounting system can be improved. Recommendations are to be made to the Legislature.
