SENATE COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENTAL OPERATIONS
Staff: Rod McAulay (786‑7754)
Hearing Dates: January 30, 1992
BACKGROUND:
In response to the continual calls for federal and state governments to respond with assistance to victims of floods, the federal government established a flood insurance program which involves the designation of flood ways and flood plains, based upon the frequency of flooding over a period of 100 years. In counties which elect to participate in the federal program, properties located within flood ways and flood plains are subject to various restrictions and requirements with regard to building construction and acquisition of insurance. Purchasers of real estate may not always be aware of whether the property they are acquiring is within a flood way or flood plain.
SUMMARY:
Flood insurance rate maps may be recorded in the office of the county auditor.
Appropriation: none
Revenue: none
