HOUSE COMMITTEE ON STATE GOVERNMENT

BACKGROUND:

Over half a million men and women from the United States participated in an effort by a coalition of nearly 30 nations to enforce by military action the United Nations' resolutions calling for the complete withdrawal of Iraqi forces illegally occupying Kuwait.  Of the U.S. forces, about 8,000 come from Washington State.  They are our neighbors and they serve our community in both peace and war.  The people of Washington are united in their support for the men and women who serve in our armed forces and wholeheartedly support their efforts.

SUMMARY:

The Department of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff extend our appreciation to all our troops, especially those representing the state of Washington in this time of crisis and courage.
