BACKGROUND:
The Governor's Council on Education Reform and Funding was created by Executive Order in 1991 and charged with creating an education system that is flexible and ensures that all students perform at substantially higher levels. The council has formed six sub-groups and continues to work through the sub-groups and in full council sessions to review, discuss and coordinate complex and sometimes competing educational issues.
In January 1992, the council released an interim report. The council's final report, including action-oriented recommendations, is due in December 1992.
SUMMARY:
The Legislature endorses the council's charge, its plan of work, and looks to December 1992 for receipt of the council's final report.
