Read first time February 19, 1991.  Granting paid leave for employees who are in training or on call as volunteer members of the emergency services.


     AN ACT Relating to state civil and higher education employees; adding a new section to chapter 28B.16 RCW; and adding a new section to chapter 41.06 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28B.16 RCW to read as follows:

     All higher education institutions and postsecondary institutions shall provide paid leave for employees subject to this chapter who are in training or on call as volunteer fire fighters, law enforcement officers, search and rescue team members, or emergency medical technicians.  Paid leave for training purposes described in this section shall not exceed ten days during each calendar year.  The higher education personnel board shall monitor the amount of leave taken by employees who are in training or on call as described in this section, and the board shall provide a report to the legislature by January 15, 1992, describing leave taken or requested under this section.
