     AN ACT Relating to elections; adding a new section to chapter 29.04 RCW; adding a new section to chapter 29.15 RCW; providing an effective date; and providing an expiration date.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 29.04 RCW to read as follows:

     The filing officer shall review the filings of declarations of candidacy to determine that candidates are registered and reside in the district for which they file.  No name of any candidate may be placed on any ballot if the county filing officer or the secretary of state finds the candidate is not registered to vote within the geographic area required in order to assume the office if elected.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 29.15 RCW to read as follows:

     The filing officer shall review the filings of declarations of candidacy to determine that candidates are registered and reside in the district for which they file.  No name of any candidate may be placed on any ballot if the county filing officer or the secretary of state finds the candidate is not registered to vote within the geographic area required in order to assume the office if elected.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.      Section 1 of this act shall expire July 1, 1992.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 4.      Section 2 of this act shall take effect July 1, 1992.
