     AN ACT Relating to workplace safety bonus programs; and adding a new section to chapter 51.28 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 51.28 RCW to read as follows:

     Any safety bonus program implemented by an employer at a workplace shall comply with the following:

     (1) Safety bonuses may only be awarded based on the individual worker's safety performance.  No bonus program may make an award contingent upon the safety performance of another worker or group of workers.

     (2) Safety bonus awards may not be contingent upon the receipt by the worker of other types of bonus awards, including, but not limited to, productivity bonuses, attendance bonuses, or quality of work bonuses.

     (3) No worker may receive a safety bonus award exceeding the value of twenty-five dollars in any calendar quarter.
