AN ACT Relating to physical access at institutions of higher education; and adding a new section to chapter 28B.10 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 28B.10 RCW to read as follows:
By October 31, 1991, each institution of higher education as defined in RCW 28B.10.016 shall convene a physical access committee to identify barriers to physical access on each of the institution's campuses. The committee shall include, but is not limited to: One or more students with disabilities, one or more members of the faculty and staff with disabilities, the institution's coordinator of disabled student services, administrators, physical plant staff, and others as appropriate.
The committee shall present its findings and recommendations to the institution's administration. Beginning in 1992, each institution shall incorporate into its capital budget process, efforts to substantially reduce and eventually eliminate physical barriers to access.
