     AN ACT Relating to teacher education; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.305 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.305 RCW to read as follows:

     Beginning September 1, 1992, in addition to any other approval requirements for teacher preparation programs pursuant to RCW 28A.305.130(1), the state board of education shall require, as a condition of program approval, that all candidates for certification complete at least forty-five hours of course work that includes the skills, techniques, and knowledge necessary to teach and work with students from diverse racial and ethnic populations effectively.
