AN ACT Relating to educational employees' travel expenses; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.400 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 28A.400 RCW to read as follows:
(1) The superintendent of public instruction shall prescribe reasonable allowances to cover reasonable and necessary subsistence and lodging expenses for employees while engaged on official business away from their designated posts of duty. The superintendent may prescribe and regulate the allowances provided in lieu of subsistence and lodging expenses and may prescribe the conditions under which reimbursement for subsistence and lodging may be allowed.
(2) The allowances prescribed in subsection (1) of this section may be paid as reimbursements to employees for subsistence and lodging expenses during official travel. Payment to suppliers for subsistence and lodging expenses of employees in travel status shall not result in a cost to the state in excess of what would be payable by way of reimbursements to the employees involved.
(3) Employees of school districts and educational service districts shall qualify for government travel and subsistence rates to the same extent state employees qualify for such rates.
