AN ACT Relating to teachers recruiting future teachers; adding a new section to chapter 28A.300 RCW; and creating new sections.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The purpose of the teachers recruiting future teachers program is to enlarge the pool of qualified high school students who are motivated to become teachers.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. A new section is added to chapter 28A.300 RCW to read as follows:
(1) The teachers recruiting future teachers program is created. Participating teachers shall make presentations to high school classes discussing the rewards and challenges of teaching. Interested students may meet monthly for four months with a participating teacher for follow-up discussions on the issues in teaching.
(2) The superintendent of public instruction shall adopt rules to implement this section.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 3. If specific funding for the purposes of this act, referencing this act by bill number, is not provided by June 30, 1991, in the omnibus appropriations act, this act shall be null and void.
