     AN ACT Relating to chiropractic assistants; and adding a new section to chapter 18.25 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 18.25 RCW to read as follows:

     (1) A chiropractor may employ a technician to operate x-ray equipment after submitting satisfactory proof to the board that the technician has successfully completed a course of instruction, of at least forty-eight hours, approved by the board.

     (2) The course of instruction shall include:

     (a) Physics and equipment;

     (b) Principles of radiographic exposure;

     (c) Radiation protection;

     (d) Anatomy and physiology; and

     (e) Radiographic positioning and procedures.

     (3) The course instructor shall have on-campus or postgraduate faculty status in the field of radiology with a board recognized chiropractic college.

     (4) The technician must receive a passing grade on a proficiency test administered by the board.  The board may contract for the examination to the American chiropractic registry of radiologic technologists, or other equivalent agency.

     (5) Technicians who have performed chiropractic radiographic procedures for two years prior to the effective date of this act may take the examination without further course work.

     (6) The board shall accept active registry status with the American chiropractic registry of radiologic technologists as sufficient proof of proficiency to operate x-ray equipment, without the need for further testing.
