AN ACT Relating to transition training programs for inmates at state penal institutions; and adding a new section to chapter 72.02 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 72.02 RCW to read as follows:
The secretary of corrections shall establish a program to provide training to inmates at state penal institutions who volunteer and are selected to be transition preparation group leaders. The inmates shall be trained to lead transition preparation group meetings within the institution. The training shall prepare the selected inmates to assist others in:
(1) Setting goals;
(2) Discussing motivations, behavior, and goals;
(3) Developing plans for release; and
(4) Learning about and using resources that are available for newly released inmates.
