Appropriations.Requiring a study of chiropractic and other types of treatment for low back conditions.


     AN ACT Relating to a study of types of treatment for low back conditions; creating a new section; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.      The secretary of the department of health shall contract for an independent study of the comparative effectiveness, cost, and utilization of care of low back conditions by chiropractors, orthopedists, family practitioners, and physical therapists in the workers' compensation program of the department of labor and industries.  The secretary shall submit this report to the legislature by December 31, 1993.

     The contract awarded under this section is subject to the competitive bid process established by RCW 43.19.1906.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.      The sum of two hundred fifty thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1993, from the general fund to the department of health for the purposes of section 1 of this act.
