AN ACT Relating to appropriations for a Korean War memorial; creating a new section; and making an appropriation.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.      The legislature intends to remember the one hundred twenty-two thousand men and women from Washington state who served during the Korean War.  More than fifty-four thousand American men and women were killed in Korea.  Of those, four hundred seventy-two were from Washington state.  Hundreds of thousands were wounded or injured and eight thousand people are still missing in action.  Washington's pride for the people who fought in the Korean War is as strong today as it was in the 1950's.  The legislature pledges strong support for a Korean War memorial on the state capitol campus in Olympia.

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.      The sum of fifty thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1993, from the state building construction account to the department of veterans affairs for the purpose of erecting a Korean War memorial.  This appropriation shall be matched by at least two hundred thousand dollars from nonstate sources for the same purpose as this appropriation.
