     AN ACT Relating to special licenses for vehicles owned by active-duty military personnel; and adding a new section to chapter 46.16 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 46.16 RCW to read as follows:

     (1) Upon receipt of a completed application and a fee of thirty-five dollars, the department shall issue a special license plate to a member of the armed forces of the United States on active duty and assigned to a military base in this state.  The special military license is in lieu of any other license that the vehicle may be required to display and exempts the registered owner of the vehicle for which it is issued from the payment of other license fees or motor vehicle excise tax on the vehicle.

     (2) The special military license expires annually, and may be renewed for a fee of thirty-five dollars if the registered owner submits information satisfactory to the department showing that he or she still meets the requirements of subsection (1) of this section.

     (3) All fees paid under this section shall be deposited in the motor vehicle fund and shall be used on highway projects in the vicinity of the military base to which the registered owner of the vehicle is assigned.
