AN ACT Relating to commuter ride sharing; and adding a new section to chapter 43.41 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 43.41 RCW to read as follows:
(1) The department of transportation, in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of employee use of state-owned vehicles for commuter ride sharing as a commute trip reduction measure, under RCW 43.41.130, is exempt from requiring its employees to pay the full capital depreciation and operational cost so long as this use is economical and advantageous to the state.
(2) The department of transportation shall conduct this demonstration project in cooperation with the department of general administration. The results shall be used in developing the commute trip reduction plan for state agencies as required under RCW 70.94.551.
