     AN ACT Relating to elected officials of local governments; adding a new section to chapter 42.23 RCW; and adding a new section to chapter 42.17 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 42.23 RCW to read as follows:

     (1) It is a violation of the code of ethics for an elected municipal officer not to make an adequate report or reports of financial affairs for the period of the campaign for that elected office as required under chapter 42.17 RCW.

     (2) An elected municipal officer who fails to file an adequate report or reports as provided under subsection (1) of this section may not receive compensation or reimbursement for expenses from the municipality until an adequate report or reports have been filed with the public disclosure commission.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 42.17 RCW to read as follows:

     The commission shall identify for each political subdivision a person elected to an office of the political subdivision who, as of the first day of January in the year after the election, has not filed an adequate report or reports for the period of the campaign, as required under this chapter.
