     AN ACT Relating to state patrol officers; and adding a new section to chapter 43.43 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 43.43 RCW to read as follows:

     (1) A state patrol officer who is a trained voluntary fire fighter or trained to assist in a flood control district shall be relieved from his or her duties as a state patrol officer when the officer's skills as a fire fighter or for flood control work are needed during a state of emergency.  The officer's assigned shifts during the time of emergency may be covered by other state patrol officers.

     (2) An officer who receives compensation for fire fighting or flood control work performed under subsection (1) of this section during working hours may retain his or her regular salary, but the amount of additional compensation up to the amount of the officer's basic salary must be returned or credited back to the state patrol.  The officer may retain travel reimbursement, and per diem, if any.
