     WHEREAS, On February 8, 1989, the Senate established the Senate Select Committee on Washington 2000 A.D.; and

     WHEREAS, The Senate Select Committee on Washington 2000 A.D. was charged with developing a process for the identification and refinement of goals and objectives for the State of Washington, and designing and implementing a process for achieving those goals and objectives by the year 2000; and

     WHEREAS, The setting of goals and objectives for the State of Washington requires a legislative approach involving both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and the Legislature can be the catalyst that unites all segments of our society in setting long range goals and objectives for the State of Washington; and

     WHEREAS, Such processes have already begun to take shape with standing committees in both the Senate and the House of Representatives looking at issues from a long‑term perspective and in terms of goals and objectives, and with members of the House of Representatives actively involved in the Senate Select Committee's work to date;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the House of Representatives, the Senate of the State of Washington concurring, That the Senate Select Committee on Washington 2000 A.D. is renamed the Joint Select Committee on Washington 2000, comprised of six Senators, three from each caucus, appointed by the Lieutenant Governor, and six members of the House of Representatives, three from each caucus, appointed by the Speaker of the House; provided that the original members of the Joint Select Committee on Washington 2000 shall be those members of the Senate and the House of Representatives currently assigned to serve on the Senate Select Committee on Washington 2000 A.D.; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Joint Select Committee on Washington 2000 shall report to the Legislature at regular intervals, and shall continue in existence until it has accomplished its objectives, and shall solicit the cooperation and input of members of the private sector, the public sector, and the academic community.
