HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 91-4613, by Representative Belcher

   WHEREAS, Washington's superb natural landscape is enhanced by cultural and recreational resources of great diversity and high quality; and

   WHEREAS, These cultural and recreational resources contribute greatly to the quality of life which is enjoyed by Washingtonians in every corner of the state; and

   WHEREAS, The existence and the program activities of these cultural and recreational organizations are all too often not recognized by residents of the communities they serve; and

   WHEREAS, Access to the facilities and programs of cultural and recreational organizations is even more difficult for visitors who travel within the state or come to Washington from other parts of the nation or the world; and

   WHEREAS, Many cultural and recreational organizations experience unused capacity and could therefore benefit greatly from increased audiences and participation; and

   WHEREAS, The cultural and recreational organizations of Washington state deserve greater notice for their activities and programs; and

   WHEREAS, There are many potential visitors to Washington communities whose plans for vacationing in the state could be greatly enhanced by further knowledge of the cultural and recreational opportunities available throughout Washington; and

   WHEREAS, There are many opportunities for collaborative efforts to expand communications with visitors and prospective visitors concerning the cultural and recreational opportunities of the state of Washington; and

   WHEREAS, The high esteem in which the state of Washington is held throughout the world has been closely associated with many of the products of Washington industry and agriculture; and

   WHEREAS, Cooperation in building a wider audience for Washington's cultural and recreational resources and consumer goods will have a positive effect on the financial resources available in Washington communities encouraging both public and private expansion of economic activities; and

   WHEREAS, The conventional sources of financial support for cultural and recreational organizations are facing ever-increasing demands which threaten to overwhelm available resources; and

   WHEREAS, There are limited opportunities for collaboration, cooperation, and exchange among the staff and volunteers of the broad range of public and private-nonprofit organizations whose continuing efforts contribute so much to the quality of Washington's communities as places to live and visit;

   NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the state of Washington congratulate the organizers of THE EVERGREEN STATE SOCIETY on the formation of this new state-wide, nonprofit organization; and

   BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives also endorse The Evergreen State Society's twin goals of expanding the audience for Washington's cultural and recreational organizations among visitors from outside their home communities and expanding the markets for Washington consumer goods; and

   BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the closest possible cooperation between the various agencies of state and local government with complementary missions so as to maximize the chances for the success of The Evergreen State Society and its rapid growth to the point where it can offer significant assistance to their efforts; and

   BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives call upon all Washingtonians who support our cultural and recreational organizations to join in assisting in the collaborative work of The Evergreen State Society; and

   BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to The Evergreen State Society.

I hereby certify this to be a true and correct copy of Resolution 4613 adopted by the Rules Committee of the House of Representatives February 5, 1991.
