HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 91-4715, by Representatives Cooper, Morris, Riley, Hargrove and Basich
WHEREAS, the legislature notes that the fiftieth anniversary of the operation of the Reynolds Metals Company near Longview, Washington, in Cowlitz county will be held on September 13 and 14, 1991; and
WHEREAS, The Reynolds Metals Company, a producer of metals and other materials through its world-wide operations, is a progressive company serving growth industries and is dedicated to superior product quality and technological leadership. Having been founded in 1919 as U.S. Foil Company and incorporated in 1928 under its present name, it became one of the world's largest producers of aluminum and aluminum products with thirty thousand eight hundred employees at more than one hundred operations in twenty countries, including sixty-four plants in the United States, with a total production capacity of more than one million tons; and
WHEREAS, Reynolds Metals Company is the world's leader in aluminum can-making technology, and is a pioneer and leader in aluminum can recycling with the nation's largest consumer recycling network; and
WHEREAS, Reynolds Metals Company established its Longview reduction plant in 1941 because of a volatile world situation which made necessary an increase in the country's aluminum capacity in order to strengthen America for the inevitable world struggle; and
WHEREAS, Reynolds operations in Cowlitz county, Washington, being comprised of the Longview reduction plant and the Longview cable plant, employs one thousand two hundred people and pays over sixty-one million dollars in annual wages and benefits and spends over twenty million dollars in local purchases; and
WHEREAS, Reynolds also operates an aluminum can manufacturing facility, a sales office, and a can recycling center near Seattle; and
WHEREAS, The management and employees of Reynolds are actively involved in the improvement of the Longview area, and take great pride in working with local charities and organizations to make Longview a better place in which to live and work;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives wishes to congratulate the management and employees of Reynolds Metals Company on its sterling record, its economic base to the Longview area and the state of Washington, and its numerous and notable contributions to the Longview/Kelso area and the state on the occasion of their fiftieth anniversary celebration, and wishes them every future success; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the Reynold's Metal Company.
