HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 92-4732, by Representatives O'Brien, Hine, Rasmussen, Locke, Cantwell, Heavey, Anderson, Basich, Dellwo, Leonard, Wineberry, Prentice, Paris and Wood

 

     WHEREAS, It is the policy of the Legislature to recognize excellence in all fields of endeavor; and

     WHEREAS, The O'Dea High School Irish football team from Seattle won the 1991 Class AA State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, O'Dea Football Coach Monte Kohler showed leadership and skill in focusing his team on winning, and reminded them as they entered the Kingdome that they came there to "take care of business," and they did as O'Dea won its first football championship by defeating Prosser High School twenty-one to fourteen; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Monte Kohler who has been at the Irish helm for seven years was rewarded for his efforts at O'Dea High School as he was selected the Washington State Coach of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Luke Dacy, second-year captain, who won the Most Valuable Player Award, and team cocaptains, Erasto Jackson and Jimaine Miller, contributed greatly to winning the Class AA championship and finishing with a record 12-1 for the season; and

     WHEREAS, Throughout the season and the championship football game, the Irish dedicated their efforts to and were inspired by their former teammate, Tod Landgraf, who had suffered a heart attack and could not participate.

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the State of Washington recognize and honor the O'Dea High School Irish football team and Coach Monte Kohler for their accomplishments; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to Coach Monte Kohler, to the members of the O'Dea Irish football team, and to the Principal and faculty of O'Dea High School.
