HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 92-4744, by Representative O'Brien

 

     WHEREAS, The many contributions made by African Americans are celebrated nation-wide during Black History Month in February; and

     WHEREAS, The many activities celebrating Black History Month are open to everyone and provide an opportunity to encourage the ideals of respect, appreciation, and understanding of others; and

     WHEREAS, It is most appropriate that the fourth Thursday of February shall be designated as National Black History Shirt Day; and

     WHEREAS, On that day people from all walks of life are encouraged to wear shirts that display a positive message or image about African Americans; and

     WHEREAS, In addition to wearing special shirts in public, people are encouraged to display other appropriate items that carry positive messages and images about Black people and their achievements; and

     WHEREAS, In this recognition of Black History Shirt Day we will promote the awareness of African American achievements in science, inventions, education, politics, entertainment, sports, and numerous other fields;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the members of the House of Representatives recognize the importance of the concept of National Black History Shirt Day and extends its best wishes for the success of this acknowledgement; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to Frank E. Foy, member of the Black History Shirt Day Committee and creator of the Black History Shirt Day.
