AN ACT Relating to firearms in state capitol buildings; adding a new section to chapter 9.41 RCW; and prescribing penalties.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 9.41 RCW to read as follows:
It shall be unlawful for any person, except law enforcement officers, to carry, transport, convey, or to have in his or her possession or under his or her control any firearm while in the following buildings located on the west state capitol campus grounds:
(1) Legislative Building;
(2) John L. O'Brien Building;
(3) John A. Cherberg Building;
(4) Temple of Justice;
(5) General Administration Building;
(6) Governor's Mansion;
(7) Insurance Building;
(8) State Library;
(9) Institutions Building; and
(10) Public Information Center.
This section does not apply to any person licensed under RCW 9.41.070 who, before entering any capitol campus building listed in this section, immediately notifies the Washington state patrol that they are in possession of a concealed weapon. This section shall not restrict any person from carrying, transporting, or to have in his or her possession, any firearms for the express purpose of demonstration or lecture involving the exhibition of firearms.
Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
