     AN ACT Relating to candidate residency requirements; and adding a new section to chapter 29.30 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 29.30 RCW to read as follows:

     Election officers shall review filings to determine that candidates are registered to vote and reside in the district for which they file.  No candidate's name may be placed on a ballot if the county elections officer or the secretary of state finds the candidate is not registered to vote within the geographic area required in order to assume the office if elected.
