AN ACT Relating to earth day; adding a new section to chapter 1.20 RCW; and creating a new section.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The legislature finds that the preservation of Washington state's natural resources is crucial to the continued prosperity and the happiness of our citizens. The legislature further finds that we must educate all children and adults in methods of reducing pollution in the world around us. The legislature finds that each citizen, each day, can threaten or nurture the health of our natural resources, through a variety of actions. The legislature recognizes that celebration of Earth Day in 1990 helped to focus our citizens' attention on the needs of the Northwest and our planet.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. A new section is added to chapter 1.20 RCW to read as follows:
The legislature declares that the third Saturday in September shall be designated Washington state earth day, but shall not be considered a legal holiday for any purposes.
