     AN ACT Relating to the Northwest low-level waste compact; adding a new section to chapter 43.145 RCW; and creating a new section.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.      The legislature finds that the state and the nation are entering a critical period in determining and executing policies pertaining to the disposal of low-level radioactive waste.  The legislature further finds that as the host state of an interstate compact on disposal of this type of material, crucial decisions on the future of the site are made at compact meetings and that these meetings should be held in Washington, the host state.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 43.145 RCW to read as follows:

     No costs shall be paid for or reimbursed by the state of Washington for the participation of other member states in the Northwest low-level waste compact for meetings of the compact held outside the state of Washington.
