Read first time January 24, 1991.  Referred to Committee on Education.Endorsing the VISION:  EDUCATION 2001 statement.


     WHEREAS, The Education Vision Team comprised of leaders in education, parent advocacy, state government, and business have developed an educational vision statement entitled, "VISION: EDUCATION 2001"; and

     WHEREAS, The education vision statement is intended to be an evolving, dynamic document reflecting the state's commitment to educational renewal and improvement as the twenty-first century approaches; and

     WHEREAS, State and local educational policies and programs should be aimed at realizing the vision statement; and

     WHEREAS, The vision statement has been endorsed by Governor Booth Gardner, Superintendent of Public Instruction Judith Billings, the State Board of Education, the Washington State School Directors' Association, the Washington Association of School Administrators, the Association of Washington School Principals, the Washington Education Association, the Washington State PTA, and the Washington Roundtable;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the Senate of the state of Washington, the House of Representatives concurring, That the VISION: EDUCATION 2001 statement is hereby endorsed as the guiding vision for continuing efforts to establish by the year 2001 that, "The education system in Washington state is world class because ALL students are successful learners and responsible citizens"; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the Senate distribute copies of this resolution to Governor Booth Gardner, Superintendent of Public Instruction Judith Billings, the State Board of Education, the Washington State School Directors' Association, the Washington Association of School Administrators, the Association of Washington School Principals, the Washington Education Association, the Washington State PTA, the Washington Roundtable, and the citizens of Washington through the major news media of the state.
