SENATE RESOLUTION
1991-8650
By Senator A. Smith
WHEREAS, Numerous studies have shown that airport noise is injurious to a person's health; and
WHEREAS, The abatement of such noise is of paramount importance to the health and welfare of persons living within a thirty-mile radius of a major metropolitan airport; and
WHEREAS, Federal legislation has been introduced just recently that would strengthen regulations to protect residents who live within a thirty-mile radius of a major metropolitan airport; and
WHEREAS, The Senate recognizes the need to require noise studies when an airport changes its flight patterns at fifteen thousand feet or below; and
WHEREAS, The Senate also does not want to preclude any actions by local governments and jurisdictions that will strengthen noise abatement procedures and policies for people living within a thirty-mile radius of a major metropolitan airport; and
WHEREAS, The Senate encourages the interaction of local governments and the Federal Aviation Administration to continue to develop noise reduction plans such as a fifty percent reduction by the year 2001 called for by the Sea-Tac airport;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate wishes to convey to the Congressional delegation of the State of Washington its support for all efforts to reduce the noise caused by airplanes that serve major metropolitan airports, and that the members of the Senate will continue to work to ensure the health and safety of all residents who live near major metropolitan airports in Washington; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to each member of Congress from the State of Washington.
