     WHEREAS, The State of Washington recognizes the province of Taiwan for its past and present contributions to this state's economic, social, and cultural activities which have enriched the lives of all Washingtonians; and

     WHEREAS, It is vital that the State of Washington maintain excellent trade relations with the province of Taiwan; and

     WHEREAS, It is beneficial to encourage the free exchange of cultures and goodwill between the State of Washington and the province of Taiwan; and

     WHEREAS, It is advantageous to both the State of Washington and the province of Taiwan to encourage tourism to both regions;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the Senate of the State of Washington, that Washington declare the province of Taiwan its international sister state.
