SENATE RESOLUTION

     WHEREAS, The democracy, freedom, and human and political rights of the Croatian people must be preserved; and

     WHEREAS, A system of a contemporary, pluralistic, and parliamentary democratic rule with full respect for human and political rights of individuals and groups and a view to entering a free, democratic Europe exists in several republics, including Croatia; and

     WHEREAS, Yugoslavia, an arbitrary and forced unification of old and diverse nations, is on the verge of disintegration; and

     WHEREAS, In the Republic of Croatia neocommunists, with a threat of imminent Yugoslavian assistance, have used all of their strength to crumble the democratically elected government; and

     WHEREAS, Terror is being inflicted upon the Croatians by a totalitarian system led by Serbians in the Socialistic Party and generals of the National Army; and

     WHEREAS, A brutal apartheid is experienced by many in the republics, especially by the people of the province of Kosovo, where ninety percent of the people are Albanians allowed absolutely no rights; and

     WHEREAS, The United States of America represents, at this very historic moment, the only organized force which knows about and can and wants to oppose the violent enslavement of the peoples and countries involved; and

     WHEREAS, The United States of America has shown its ability to protect the world's democratic processes and basic human rights, as shown by its determined action against Iraq;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate support the establishment of a free, independent, and democratic State of Croatia as part of the united European community; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the Croatian Culture Club "Only Croatia."
