      Revises the types of relief which a court can grant on petitions alleging domestic violence.

      Establishes a procedure for service by publication in designated circumstances.

      Authorizes the court to issue an order of protection for one year if the respondent fails to appear at a hearing after notice is given.

      Specifies situations when an order may be effective for a period exceeding one year.

      Requires petitioners to pay the cost of publication.
