     On page 2, line 17, after "(2)" insert "On and after November 9, 1994, no person is eligible to be a candidate for sheriff and no person may be elected or appointed to the office of sheriff unless at the time of filing or appointment the person has passed an examination on law enforcement and the office of sheriff that is prepared and administered by the attorney general.  The attorney general shall prepare an examination of law enforcement and the office of sheriff for this purpose that tests knowledge of: (a) Law enforcement; (b) criminal laws; (c) applicable constitutional provisions and court decisions relating to law enforcement; (d) management; and (e) the civil and criminal responsibilities of the sheriff.  The attorney general shall establish what constitutes a passing grade on each separate portion of this examination.
