Background:  Washington state provides export assistance through a variety of public programs and funding.

 

Summary of Bill:  The Department of Trade and Economic Development, within current resources, is to work with the Tacoma World Trade Center to assist small and medium-sized businesses with export opportunities.

 

Operation New Market is a program designed to enhance export opportunities for Washington businesses.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

 

Testimony For:  (Trade, Economic Development & Housing) The globalization of the economy has resulted in international competition that challenges the state in international and domestic markets.  One in five jobs in Washington is trade-related; the state must successfully export products for the well-being of the whole state economy.  This program will help small and medium-sized companies successfully export products or services.
