Background:  Parents of juvenile offenders committed to the Department of Social and Health Services are not financially responsible for the care and treatment of their children.

 

Summary of Bill:  Parents of juvenile offenders committed to the Department of Social and Health Services are financially responsible for their children and will pay for their child's care based on their ability to pay.  Parents who receive, or are eligible to receive, adoption support payments are not required to contribute to the cost of housing and serving their adopted child.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

 

Testimony For:  (Human Services) This legislation is necessary to implement the budget.  It is appropriate for parents to contribute to the cost of serving their child.
