Background:  Prior to 1986, the Legislative Information System (LIS) was administered by the Code Reviser's Office.  In 1986, responsibility for LIS was transferred to the new Joint Legislative Service Center.  The Joint Legislative Systems Committee was established to oversee the direction of the information processing and communications systems of the Legislature.  The committee was also charged with employing a legislative systems coordinator and with enforcing policies, procedures, and standards.

 

The eight members of the Joint Legislative Systems Committee are:  the speaker and the minority leader of the House of Representatives; a member from each of the two House caucuses, appointed by the speaker; the majority leader and minority leader of the Senate; and a member of each of the two Senate caucuses, appointed by the majority leader of the Senate.  Members serve two year terms.

 

Summary of Bill:  The requirement that the speaker of the House, the minority leader of the House, the Senate majority leader, and the Senate minority leader serve on the Joint Legislative Systems Committee is repealed.  The committee will continue to consist of eight members.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
