BACKGROUND:

 

The responsibility for approving youth shows and fairs is jointly held by Washington State University and the Washington Work Force Training and Education Coordinating Board.

 

Concern has been expressed that this function is beyond the board's normal scope of responsibilities, but within the scope of activities performed by the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The responsibility for approving youth shows and fairs shared with Washington State University is transferred from the Washington Work Force Training and Education Coordinating Board to the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

TESTIMONY FOR:

 

The bill is needed because SPI is much closer to youth shows and fairs due to the involvement of children in 4-H and the Future Farmers of America.
