Signed by Senators Moore, Chairman; Prentice, Vice Chairman; Amondson, Fraser, McAuliffe, Pelz, Sutherland, and Vognild.

Hearing Dates: April 2, 1993

BACKGROUND:

Boilers are regulated and inspected annually by the state.  Miniature locomotives, boats, tractors, and stationary engines are sometimes built and maintained as hobbies.  They all use small boilers in their operation.  They are all also subject to state boiler rules and inspections.

SUMMARY:

Miniature boilers which were built before January 1, 1995, and which do not exceed certain size limits may be granted special permits if the Department of Labor and Industries finds them to be safe.  They will not be subject to the rules and regulations used for large power boilers.
