BACKGROUND:

 

Washington State has funded a child care demonstration project for state employees.  The scope of the project has tended to increase over the past few years.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The state employee child care project is clarified as statewide, rather than limited to Olympia.  Partnerships between agencies, employees, labor organizations and private employers are encouraged, in order to expand availability of care.  Responsibility is given to the Department of Personnel to develop policy and establish rules.  Department of Personnel and Department of Health representatives are added to the statutory Child Care Coordinating Committee.
