Brief Description:  Abolishing the state professional athletic commission.

 

SPONSORS: Representatives Dunshee, Lemmon and Wolfe; by request of Office of Financial Management

 

 

BACKGROUND: 

 

The Professional Athletic Commission is composed of three members appointed by the governor.  The commission regulates professional boxing and wrestling in Washington State, including the granting and revocation of licenses.

 

SUMMARY: 

 

The Professional Athletic Commission is abolished.  Its powers, duties, and functions are transferred to the Department of Licensing (DOL).  All records or written material, office property, funds or other assets, and employees of the commission are transferred to DOL.  The director of the Office of Financial Management (OFM) is to resolve any questions arising during the transfer.

Effective Date:  The bill contains an emergency clause and takes effect July 1, 1993.
