BACKGROUND:

 

In 1989 the Legislature prohibited commercial bottom trawling in Puget Sound south of Foulweather Bluff.  The prohibition was enacted due to concerns over adverse effects upon the sea bottom and because of conservation concerns for certain marine fish species.

 

There is interest in expanding the bottom trawling prohibition to all marine areas east of Neah Bay.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Bottom trawling is prohibited in marine waters east of Neah Bay.
