BACKGROUND:
Boilers are regulated and inspected by the state. There are a few exemptions from these regulations and inspections for boilers which are either regulated by another authority or are small enough to not create a safety hazard.
Miniature locomotives, boats, tractors, and stationary engines are sometimes built and maintained as hobbies. They all use small boilers in their operation. They are also all subject to state boiler rules and inspections.
SUMMARY:
Miniature locomotives, boats, tractors, and stationary engines which are built and maintained as hobbies are granted a special permit after inspection. An exemption from this chapter is created for antique fire engines with rebuilt boilers.
