BACKGROUND:

 

Current State Board of Education rules require a person, who is seeking a subject area endorsement to teach English, to have completed coursework in American literature, English literature, comparative literature, linguistics or structure of language, and writing/composition. 

 

SUMMARY:

 

When the State Board of Education adopts rules regarding the subject area requirements for an endorsement to provide instruction in English, the rules shall recognize all literature as literature provided that it is written or translated into the English language.
