BACKGROUND:

 

The past two biennial capital budgets have provided funding for grants to state agencies to make capital improvements on child care centers for state employees.  With $600,000 provided in 1989-91 and an additional $2.5 million in 1991-93, the department has assisted in the capital improvement of 19 child care facilities.  No state funds have been provided for operating expenses of child care centers for state employees.

 

SUMMARY:

 

$1 million is provided to the state employee subcommittee of the child care coordinating committee for non-capital costs incurred by child care centers for state employees.  Funded items include subsidies for state employees, developmental items, start-up costs, and demonstration projects.
