BACKGROUND:

 

The Washington Traffic Safety Commission operates traffic safety programs and provides federal grants to state and local agencies for traffic safety programs.

 

The commission is composed of ten members including the Governor, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Director of Licensing, the Secretary of Transportation, the Chief of the State Patrol, the Secretary of Health, the Secretary of the Department of Social and Health Services, one representative of the Association of Washington Cities, one representative of the Washington Association of Counties, and a representative of the judiciary.

 

The director of the commission is appointed by the Governor.  Senate confirmation is not required.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Senate confirmation is required in the appointment of the Director of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission by the Governor.
