BACKGROUND

The 1992 Legislature enacted several transaction fee increases for motor vehicle licensing subagents.  As part of that legislation, a 50-cent increase for all new and renewal motor vehicle license transactions was enacted and deposited in the newly created Department of Licensing services account in the motor vehicle fund.  Monies deposited into this account must be appropriated and used only for information and service systems for the department, and for reimbursing counties that do not cover their costs of providing motor vehicle licensing services as agents of the state.

SUMMARY

The Department of Licensing (DOL) services account is renamed the DOL vehicle field system services account.  Appropriations from the new account are limited to replacing and/or acquiring additional equipment used in the vehicle field system, and for reimbursing counties that do not cover their costs of providing motor vehicle licensing services as agents of the state.
