BACKGROUND:

Information and counselling regarding family planning services and technologies may be included as part of the maternity care access program on an individual basis.  However, all of the women in the program may not be consistently receiving the same level of information.  There is concern that the women served by the program may have insufficient access to information regarding contraceptives such as Norplant.

SUMMARY:

Family planning services, including information about Norplant, are provided to women receiving medical assistance or eligible for emergency labor and delivery.  Coverage for family planning services continues for six months following pregnancy.
